Board Director Guidelines and Expectations
International Society in Quantization, Geometry, and Dynamics (ISQGD)
Advancing Mathematics from K–12 Education to Frontier Research
Purpose
The international society in Quantization, Geometry, and Dynamics (ISQGD) seeks to maintain a Board of Directors that reflects both academic distinction and active engagement.
As the Society continues to grow, it is important that Board Directors contribute not only through their scholarly achievements, but also through meaningful participation in ISQGD activities, programs, governance, and outreach initiatives.
Core Qualities for Board Director Recommendations
-
Responsiveness and Reliability:
Timely communication and sustained engagement in ISQGD activities, discussions, and official requests.
-
Experience in Outreach or Academic Organization:
Involvement in workshops, seminars, conferences, student engagement, educational outreach, or related academic and community initiatives.
-
Willingness to Actively Contribute:
Participation in organizing sessions, supporting programs, recommending speakers or collaborators, and engaging with the ISQGD community.
-
Alignment with ISQGD’s Mission:
Commitment to global collaboration and the advancement of mathematics across all levels—from K–12 education to frontier research.
-
Strong Academic Background with Active Engagement:
Academic credibility complemented by motivation, responsiveness, and a genuine interest in contributing to the long-term growth of the Society.
Inclusive and Flexible Approach
While academic strength remains an important consideration, ISQGD adopts a flexible and inclusive approach in identifying potential Board Directors.
Individuals at different career stages may be considered, provided they demonstrate strong commitment, responsiveness, and a willingness to actively contribute to the Society’s mission, activities, and global outreach.
Expected Contributions
Board Directors are encouraged to support ISQGD in ways consistent with their expertise, availability, and professional strengths, including:
- Organizing or co-organizing sessions, workshops, mini-courses, lectures, or academic events
- Inviting speakers, participants, collaborators, students, and institutional partners
- Supporting ISQGD journals, bulletin initiatives, editorial activities, and scholarly publications
- Promoting outreach, educational programs, K–12 mathematics activities, and community engagement
- Contributing ideas, recommendations, and strategic support for the continued development of ISQGD
Governance, Voting, and Participation Responsibility
Board Directors play an important role in the governance and decision-making processes of ISQGD, including participation in discussions and voting on matters related to the Society’s programs, policies, leadership, bylaws, publications, outreach, and long-term development.
Active engagement is essential to ensure that decisions reflect thoughtful consideration, shared responsibility, and alignment with the Society’s mission. Directors are therefore expected to remain reasonably responsive to official communications and to participate, whenever possible, in governance-related discussions and voting processes.
-
Term of Service:
The standard term of service for ISQGD Board Directors is three years from the date of appointment. The date of appointment is determined based on the date of formal approval by the Board of Directors or the date on which the Director has formally accepted the appointment, as applicable.
-
Renewability:
The appointment of a Board Director is renewable subject to review, based on continued engagement, responsible service, participation in governance, and the evolving needs of ISQGD.
- Respond to official ISQGD communications in a timely and professional manner
- Participate in voting processes when Board approval or input is requested
- Review important documents, proposals, and announcements when circulated for Board consideration
- Remain reasonably engaged with ISQGD programs, developments, and major initiatives
- Support a culture of shared responsibility, transparency, and service to the global mathematical community
As part of the reappointment process, each Board Director may be requested to submit a triennial service report at the conclusion of the three-year term. This report should provide a clear and concise summary of the Director’s contributions, participation, governance involvement, outreach support, recommendations, and other service carried out during the preceding three years. The report supports a constructive review process and helps ISQGD maintain an active, accountable, effective, and mission-driven governing body.
ISQGD respects the professional obligations and availability of all Board Directors. At the same time, continued inactivity, lack of engagement, failure to participate in governance responsibilities, or failure to fulfill assigned responsibilities may be taken into consideration during the reappointment process of Board Directors, in alignment with the Society’s commitment to maintaining an active, effective, and mission-driven governing body.
Vision
ISQGD aims to build a Board that is not only academically distinguished, but also actively engaged in advancing the Society’s programs, outreach efforts, publications, governance, educational mission, and global collaborations.
“To serve ISQGD is to serve the world.”
We seek committed individuals who share this vision and are willing to actively contribute to the Society’s mission, outreach, and the global mathematical community.
